Carol started her artistic career as a painter, then began making artist's books with pop-up and sculptural formats in 1983. She has taught book design and paper engineering workshops at all levels, from primary to university and adult classes, and her work is collected internationally.
These past few years she has returned to painting, finding creative excitement in the immediacy of this medium as opposed to the long hours of production required by the bookmaking process. She has a strong, recognizable, personal style that focuses an the interplay between color and texture.
Carol's paintings vary in levels of stylization and abstraction, inspired by landscape vistas, weather events and natural forces. Ranging from intimate studies to domestic-scaled works, they capture the moods and mysteries of everyday experiences.
